When Michael McDonnell weighed anchor in France with a knapsack full of songs, little did he know his own sons, Simon and Kevin,  would later join him on stage. Songbook,their first album, has been praised by folk press and french national radio.

The McDonnell Trio have travelled a long way from singing among friends and family to playing festivals and musical venues. Concerts all around France have brought them to release a new album It’s a Long Way to Tipperary in November 2014.

In March 2015, It’s a Long Way to Tipperary was awarded a “Coup de Coeur Musique du Monde” by the Charles Cros Academy of Music at the Bab el Med Festival in Marseille. The McDonnell are now working on new songs and videos along with brilliant breton singer-fiddle player Soazig Hamelin creating a new album.
